For some children, math can be one of their dreaded subjects. However, you can turn this dread into enthusiasm when you start making it a fun subject for them to learn at home.
Being a preschool in Maryland, we work to help children find joy in learning, including challenging subjects like Math. With this, we give parents some tips on how they can cultivate their child’s love for the subject:
- Be an Example to Your Child
If you were one of the people who did not enjoy math in school, avoid saying this to your child. This could cause math anxiety, which will dampen their outlook on the subject. Instead, help them improve their attitude toward numbers by showing them you are confident in completing math-related tasks, like counting money, estimating the cost of your purchases, and the like. - Help Them Use Math Daily
When they get used to dealing with numbers in real-life situations, they can apply it in the classroom setting as well. Let them learn how to pay for themselves, or allow them to add the prices of their items bought once you are at the store. - Play Math Games at Home
There are many games you can do at home that involve math, may it be Monopoly, Chess, dominoes, and the likes. Make math a more fun experience for them through games.
These are just some of our suggestions for making math more fun for your child.
